In the first year of a baby’s life, sleep is the the only thing that matters. The sleep you’re losing, the sleep you want this baby to get. And because of this, there are so many sleep tips, solutions, hacks, training programs, gear. Just enough to confuse the already sleep-deprived brain. I remember texting my friends for wisdom, searching the internet for advice, pumping breast milk and desperately making 2 AM Amazon purchases.
I'm writing this all down in case there is another friend out there who is looking for another resource or opinion to help them make that next decision. Here are the sleep sacks and swaddles I ended up using, what worked for me, and when I used them.
Thoughts before we get into this:
I like swaddling. Not everyone does. I did feel that it was necessary to ensure the best chances for a quality sleep.
I swaddled the baby for overnights and every nap too. I felt that offering maximum consistency for all sleeps was good for us.
For the record, our baby is and has always been an excellent sleeper. Not sure how much this has to do with the swaddle but just throwing that out there in case you’re wondering if she actually slept.
